The importance of being Earnest

That's the title of a famous play by Oscar Wilde. Wonder why I suddenly remembered the title of this trivial comedy play which we studied in school. But now since it has already attacked my mind it's going to linger around for quite a while and transfer me to my world of thoughts associated with it.

This play is based upon 'Ernest' and 'earnest' being homophones and the comedy is a must read for all those serious people who desperately need their monthly dose of laughter; and which is only and only generated through some really genuine efforts put in by their friends or acquaintances.

Secondly, the contents of the play apart, on trying to interpret the meaning of the title standalone it may be readily comprehensible how truly the author was able to capture a simple truth of daily life in a succinct statement as this. Just as the protagonist is able to achieve his objective with sheer perseverance and by displaying a lot of earnestness, in real life too a little bit of earnestness in what ever we do be it professional or personal can take us a long way.

Well this also brought back the beautiful memories of those fun-filled and care-free school days and particularly those classes where we seemed to have a gala time sitting in the last bench and playing our own games while the teacher was busy on the black board; those paper rockets we used to launch one of which actually landed straight on the teacher's desk.
